Orange Slovensko is a member of the global communications group Orange. The Orange Group operates in 19 countries of the world and currently serves almost 172 million customers. Orange owns majority shares in France, Great Britain, Belgium, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Romania, Denmark, Slovakia, Ivory Coast, Dominican Republic, Cameroon, Botswana, Madagascar, Moldova (see Orange Moldova) and Spain (previously Amena). It holds minority shares in Portugal, Austria, Thailand, Egypt, Poland and Lebanon. Orange SA is a wholly owned subsidiary of the French telecommunications giant France Telecom. Orange Slovensko is a mobile operator company, however now also offering fibre connections, operating in Slovakia since 15 January 1997 (previously named Globtel), when became the first mobile operator in Slovakia to operate the GSM digital mobile network at the 900 MHz frequency. On 15 November 1999, company launched the commercial operation of the mobile network in the 1800 MHz frequency band. It is also the first company to cover more than 66% of the country with 3G HSDPA high-speed internet with the maximum speed of 7,2 Mbit/s. Since 27 March 2002, the operator providing services under the Orange brand name and from this date company's business name is Orange Slovensko, a.s. The company operates a countrywide network covering 99% of the population and more than 3,000,000 active customers and is by far the most successful telecommunications company in Slovakia. Orange SA, whose majority owner is France Telecom, now owns a 100% stake in Orange Slovensko. The company has recently launched commercial operation of FTTH (fibre-to-the-home) providing digital TV, fixed phone line for free and a high-speed internet connection with 70 Mbit/s download and 4 Mbit/s upload. Upload speed can be upgraded to 8 Mbit/s. There are three internet packs with different speed and price. Start package (called Štart) is 12 Mbit/s dl and 1 MB/s ul (circa 29€ per month), Classic (called Klasik) package is 30 Mbit/s and 2 Mbit/s (circa 36€ per month), last one (called Premium) is 70 Mbit/s dl and 4 Mbit/s ul (circa 70€ per month). The technology similar to Orange France livebox is called "Orange Doma" (Orange Home) in Slovakia. Orange Slovensko is the major sponsor of Slovak National Ice Hockey Team and also sponsors events in Slovakia and projects for young people. It is also operating a charity fund called KontoOrange. It has a commercial with Marian Hossa of the Detroit Red Wings promoting it, too.
