The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The school is located at 300 Franklin Avenue in Nutley, NJ 07110. All students pursue an appropriate academic program to prepare for post-secondary education or for employment.

As of the 2006-07 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,369 students and 88.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 15:5.[1]

The school was the 141st-ranked public high school in New Jersey out of 316 schools statewide, in New Jersey Monthly magazine's September 2008 cover story on the state's Top Public High Schools. The school was ranked 129th in the magazine's September 2006 issue, which surveyed 316 schools across the state. Nutley High School had only dropped 12 ranks over those two years.[2]
