● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● The 2009 Norwegian Premier League season is the sixty-fifth season of top-tier football in Norway. The competition, which is also named Tippeligaen for sponsorship reasons, began on 15 March and is scheduled to end in November. Stabæk are the defending champions, having won their first ever League Championship in 2008. Due to the league expanding from 14 to 16 teams,[1] three teams were promoted from the First Division at the end of the 2008 season. Those teams were champions Odd Grenland, runners-up Sandefjord and third-placed Start. The last spot was taken by Aalesund after winning a two-legged play-off match against Sogndal. On 27 September, Rosenborg secured the title with four rounds left to go.[2] [edit] League table Source: speaker.no (Norwegian) Rules for classification: 1st points; 2nd goal difference; 3rd goals scored. 1Aalesund are the winners of the Norwegian Football Cup 2009 competition and therefore qualify for the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League. [edit] Relegation and promotion to 2010 season At the end of the season, the two last teams will be relegated directly to Adeccoligaen, and will be replaced by the winners and runners-up of the Adeccoligaen who will be directly promoted. Four teams entered a play-off for the last Premier League spot in the 2010 season. These were: - A) Fredrikstad (14th placed team in the Premier League)
- B) Kongsvinger (Third placed team in the Adeccoligaen)
- C) Sogndal (Fourth placed team in the Adeccoligaen)
- D) Sarpsborg 08 (Fifth placed team in the Adeccoligaen)
Fredrikstad lost 0-2 at home to Sarpsborg 08[3], and Kongsvinger beat Sogndal 3-1 at home[4]. Sarpsborg 08 and Kongsvinger then played a two-legged play-off where Kongsvinger prevailed, winning 5-4 on aggregate (2-3, 3-1), and thereby securing the last 2010 Premier League spot.[5]. Fredrikstadt relegated to Adeccoligaen due to losing Sarpsborg 08.
