Zillmere Eagles Australian Football Club (formerly Windsor-Zillmere, North Brisbane and Northern Eagles) is an Australian rules football clubs which once competed in the AFL Queensland State League competition. The club is based in the suburb of Zillmere in the northern suburbs of Brisbane. It ceased to play in the league in 2008.
[edit] HistoryThe Windsor-Zillmere club formed from the merger of neighbouring Windsor and Zillmere Football Clubs in 1962. Sandgate merged with the club to form North Brisbane in 1991. The Northern Eagles were formed in 1997, and were renamed Zillmere Eagles in 2005. In recent years, the club has produced AFL player Danny Dickfos. A number of other players have been drafted from the Zillmere Eagles after playing a handful of games but they have been produced by junior clubs surrounding Zillmere. Players include Jamie Charman, Robert Copeland, Josh Drummond, Brendan Whitecross, Marcus Allan, Daniel Dzufer, Mitchell Hahn and Brett Backwell. In October 2008, AFLQ transferred the licence from Zillmere Eagles to neighbouring Aspley AFC as part of an independent review which looked into the best long term option for Australian football in North Brisbane[citation needed]. The Zillmere Eagles continues in spirit through the junior Club. [edit] Honours[edit] PremiershipsThe club have won the league 18 times
[edit] Grogan MedallistsThe Grogan Medal is awarded to the best and fairest player in an AFLQ season. The club have had 7 players win the award.
