The North Texas Mean Green football team represents the University of North Texas in NCAA Division I-FBS (formerly known as I-A) college football, competing as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. The Mean Green have attained several conference championships; most recently, four consecutive Sun Belt Conference championships.[2]

Since 1951, the North Texas Mean Green has played its home games at Fouts Field, a stadium with a current capacity of 30,000 on the campus in Denton, Texas. Plans for a new stadium located within the Mean Green Village are in the works but no start date for construction has been made.

On December 12, 2006, Todd Dodge was announced as the next Mean Green head coach, replacing former coach Darrell Dickey, who was fired on November 8 after going 3-9 in 2006. Dodge (offensive co-ordinator at UNT from 1991-92) was one of the nation’s most successful high school football coaches, amassing a 98-11 record overall at Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas.

In June 2009, North Texas accepted to play the Georgia Bulldogs at Sanford Stadium to open the 2013 season. Georgia will pay North Texas $975,000—the most UGA has ever guaranteed a visiting team.[3]
