Hoover High School is a public high school in North Canton, Ohio.

The moniker "Hoover" is not in reference to president Herbert Hoover, but rather comes from the founder of the Hoover Company, which used to be based in North Canton, but no longer operates from this location.

[edit] Athletics

In 2006, Hoover's softball team won Ohio state championships. They were expected to repeat in 2007 but were knocked out by eventual champions, Hudson. They returned with vengeance to knock out Hudson early in the tournament and eventually defeat Elyria to regain the state title in 2008. In additon, the girls cross country team placed second in the state championships in 2008. Hoover High School is a member of the Federal League. The Vikings' arch rival is neighboring Jackson High School in Jackson Township.

On November 25, 2008, Hoover High running back Erick Howard was awarded the AP's 22nd Mr. Football Award (Ohio).Howard was awarded the AP's Mr. Football Award (Ohio) for the second time in 2009, becoming the second player since the award began to win the award twice. Hoover High School is a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
