Ngee Ann Polytechnic (simplified Chinese: 义安理工学院), is a institute of higher learning in Singapore, founded in 1963 as Ngee Ann College with 116 students. It was subsequently renamed Ngee Ann Technical College in 1968, before adopting its current name in 1982. The Polytechnic has an enrolment of about 14,000 full-time students, 1,265 part-time students and a alumni community of about 100,000. The campus is spread over 35 hectares at the fringe of the upmarket Bukit Timah residential district. The Polytechnic offers 46 full-time Diploma courses through eight academic schools:

Engineering Common Programme (N71) To give students the flexibility to make their choice only at the end of the first semester in Year 1, Ngee Ann’s School of Engineering offers the Engineering Common Programme (ECP). There are nine courses affiliated with ECP:
[edit] School of Film and Media StudiesThe School of Film and Media Studies (FMS) teaches Film Studies and Mass Communication. The department was established as the Department of Mass Communication in 1989, offering the Diploma in Mass Communication and Singapore's first tertiary education in the field of media. In 1993, the Diploma in Film, Sound and Video, another local first, was introduced through another separate department, the Department in Film, Sound and Video. Both departments merged to form the FMS in 1996. In 2007, FMS took in its first cohort of 30 students for the Diploma in Digital Visual Effects. Entry into the Advanced Diploma in Film Production is through the school's own admissions exercise, with the requirement of a recognized university degree or polytechnic diploma. The FMS runs TriMedia Publishing, an editorial consultancy, within its walls. Its students produce content for industry-standard media vehicles, such as The UrbanWire, an online lifestyle and entertainment magazine, glossy lifestyle magazine hype, and npTribune, the polytechnic's newspaper. Holders of FMS diplomas in Film, Sound and Video (FSV) and Mass Communication (MCM) can apply for an accelerated two-year degree programme that leads to a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Producing. The course, which began in Aug 2008, is designed and delivered by Chapman University, a film school in the United States and includes an optional immersion programme at Orange County, California. This degree programme and the partnership were created in response to the Ministry of Education’s recommendation for polytechnics to tie up with foreign specialised institutions (FSIs) to offer niche degree programmes. [edit] School of Health SciencesEstablished in 2005, the School of Health Sciences offers the Diploma in Health Sciences (Nursing) (HSN). This course is a three-year, diploma level course aimed to train registered nurses. Students will assess, manage and prevent problems related to health and illnesses. They will be equipped to apply the knowledge gained in nursing, biological and behavioural sciences to nursing practice. The course, which includes lectures, tutorials and clinical laboratories, is conducted at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Students will undergo 48 weeks of clinical attachments with healthcare establishments throughout the 3-year period. The Diploma in Health Sciences (Nursing) course is accredited by the Singapore Nursing Board. Graduates of the course will be registered as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Singapore. ICT offers students the Diploma Plus Programme (e.g. Diploma Plus Certificate in Advanced Computing Mathematics) to allow them to sharpen knowledge in a specific area. Diploma courses offered:
[edit] School of Life Sciences and Chemical TechnologyEstablished in 1989, as the Department of Biotechnology, the School of Life Sciences and Chemical Technology courses are evaluated by advisory boards and by external examiners. It is the counterpart of the cross disciplinary subjects found in other polytechnics in Singapore. Students from all faculties are required to take up Interdisciplinary Studies modules in each of the five domains: Communications, Life Skills, Entrepreneurship, Media and the Arts, Science and Technology. [edit] The CET AcademyThe CET Academy was launched by the Acting Minister for Manpower Mr. Gan Kim Yong on 21 October 2008. It takes over the operations of the Centre for Professional Development (CPD), established in 1985, and was rebranded to spearhead NP's effort in offering adult education and training, and championing lifelong learning. The Continuing Education and Training Academy offers courses and training programmes for professional upgrading and retraining. The Centre trains more than 5,000 people annually through 300 courses each year. It gives students the flexibility to work on assignments, surf the Internet for information, access module web-sites, participate in online discussions, and communicate with tutors and classmates through email at convenience, both on and off campus. Blackboard is the web platform used for Mobile eLearning. The only courses that do not require students to have their own notebook computers are Horticulture and Landscaping Management, and Health Sciences (Nursing).
