Newcastle University Halls of Residence are catered and self-catered residences for students of Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, within which first-year students are guaranteed a place.[1] All University-owned halls of residence and flats are administered by the accommodation office, organising accommodation for students, staff and visitors. In addition, there are two privately owned halls with which the University has a nominations agreement - the Accommodation Office will allocate the rooms but the student will be a tenant of, and pay rent directly to, the private company. A number of privately owned houses available for rent are also advertised via the accommodation office.
[edit] Halls of residence[edit] Castle Leazes
Castle Leazes Halls form larger of the two catered halls of residence (the other being Henderson Hall). It was opened in 1969. The name comes from the area of common land, Castle Leazes. It is located near to the University campus and provides around 1,000 rooms of mainly single study bedrooms, which are divided into three separate halls:
Facilities include 2 bars, a snooker room, a cinema room, a table tennis room, a small shop, a computer cluster, a launderette and TV rooms. A very small number of self-catered rooms are also available and a new development that will see en-suite rooms being made available is hoped to be completed for January 2010. [edit] Leazes Parade
Leazes Parade are University self-catered flats currently only available to students of the INTO Newcastle language programmes. Flats here have fewer rooms than would be found in other halls of residence. Leazes Parade is just off Barrack Road (A189) and is less than one mile west of the main University campus. It is close to Castle Leazes Halls. [edit] Leazes Terrace

The building has a classical fronted nineteenth century terrace designed by architect Thomas Oliver and built c.1830 by Richard Grainger.[2] It was acquired by the University in 1956.[3] [edit] Bowsden Court
