The New Hampshire Roller Derby is the first women's amateur roller derby league in New Hampshire.[1]

Contents

[edit] History

The league was founded in July 2007 as Skate Free or Die Rollergirls,[2] in southern New Hampshire, but now operates under the name NH Roller Derby.

In the summer of 2008,[1] their Skate Free or Die! all-star team had their first scrimmage against Providence Roller Derby's Killah Bees in July,[3] hosted their first tournament in August,[4] and saw their first bout, against Maine Roller Derby's Calamity Janes, in September.

In 2009, NH Roller Derby hosted its first full-length season.

[edit] Organization

The league is composed of an all-star travel team that competes with other leagues in the surrounding area. The travel team, Skate Free or Die!, has team colors of pink and black. While the league is not yet a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association, they play by WFTDA rules. The league is in the process of forming two home teams for the 2009 season.

The league operates as a not-for-profit. The organization has been granted 501(c)3 status. All proceeds after paying operating costs such as venue rental fees are donated to charity. Groups that the New Hampshire Roller Derby have donated to include the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, Save Giovanni's Friends and Greyhound Pets of America.[5]
