The 2nd Congressional District of Nevada is a congressional district occupying all of Nevada outside of Clark County, and some parts of Clark County. The largest city in the district, Reno, along with surrounding Washoe County casts about 70% of the district's vote. The district was created after the 1980 census. The district is the third-largest in land area in the country, and the largest district that does not consist of an entire state, as the only two larger are Alaska's and Montana's At-large congressional districts.

The district has a heavy Republican lean; Republicans often win elections at the local level here by 60 percent or more of the vote. Republicans have held the district since its creation, and Democrats have only made three serious bids for the seat. On the Presidential level, the district has historically voted Republican. George W. Bush won the district by 20 points in 2000 and 16 points in 2004. However, in 2008, John McCain only won the district by 88 votes out of 335,720 votes cast, over Democrat Barack Obama.
