[edit] Townscape

Neuötting center is a beautiful town square in the unique Inn-Salzach-Style, including to towers on each end. It was an important trading town for salt and grain, had its own mint, and was a military base for the Bavarian forces to keep Mühldorf a. Inn, a rivaling town under the control of the bishop of Salzburg, in check. Town square, the large gothic church Saint Nikolaus, and the town museum are a must-see. Travelers will also enjoy shopping or open-air dining on the recently improved town square.

[edit] Trivia

- Most cobbles of the town square are "made in China".

- Despite its long history of as center of trade and commerce, the town did not dare to build a large underground garage under the town square, which would help attract larger businesses. Instead, it opted for a commercial park in the open countryside, which cannibalizes in-town shops.

- A trolley line connected Neuötting with Altötting in the first half of the last century.
