Nammavar is a Tamil language film starring Kamal Haasan and Gouthami in lead roles. Kamal Hassan plays a revolutionary lecturer/vice principal of a college. The movie is about how he tries to reform the downtrodden college by his initiatives and its consequences. The background score and music was composed by Mahesh. The film did not fare too well at the box office as it received so many mixed reviews upon release.

P.Nirmala(Choreographer Brinda) wins the Sakthivel college chairman election over Ramesh (Karan) who is the college's rowdy and the son of the college trustee, Velusamy. So Ramesh starts a riot in college. Meanwhile, Dr. Selvam (Kamal Hassan) is appointed as the vice principal. Dr. Selvam is also an active history professor in the college. He makes good changes in the college and makes everyone around the college be happy. But Ramesh is not happy about this. He tries to destroy all Dr. Selvam's attempts and even displays his own power by making a business of smuggling drugs and by ruining the other students in the college. The rest of the movie goes around how Dr. Selvam reforms Ramesh.
