Narsee Monjee Institute of Management & Higher Studies (NMIMS) is a deemed university in Mumbai, India which offers various courses such as fulltime and partime MBA, B.Tech, M.Tech, an integrated technology and management program MBA (Tech), diploma programs and graduate and post-graduate courses in architecture, pharmacy, science and commerce. It was founded in 1981 by the Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM), a public charitable trust, headed by Shri Amrish Patel, which has founded several other educational institutions in India. The present officiating Vice Chancellor of the university is Dr. Rajan Saxena. Prior to this engagement, Dr. Saxena had been at the helm of affairs at other leading B schools (as director at IIM Indore and at SP Jain Institute of Management, Mumbai.)It is considered as one of the best business schools in India,providing elite education,platform and international exposure to students.

Narsee Monjee Institute of Management & Higher Studies was established in 1981 by the order of the University of Mumbai. The institute commenced its activities with starting of Masters Degree Programme in Management Studies. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission (UGC) has accredited NMIMS University with Grade 'A' (Score 85-90%).

The University has introduced the concept of schools, under which it holds various educational programmes.

Dr.Ramesh Bhat is the dean of the B-school. Prior to this he had been associated with IIM Ahmedabad, SRCC, amongst other institutes of international repute. He has also served as Asst. Director of ICAI.

This school offers:

The focussed programmes (viz. Global Business, Retail Management & Services Management) have been merged into the MBA Core programme, and consequentially would not be offered beyond the current 2010 batch. However, the other 5 sector-specific programmes , along with the Core MBA programme, shall continue to be offered into the future.

Full Time MBA Programmes

All the two–year full time MBA programmes are spread over six trimesters and leading to the degree in Master of Business Administration. The most notable features of the programme are its flexibility and objectives of providing a genuinely broad based education. Over the years the MBA course has created value for itself in the industry.

Beginning 2008-10 session, the MBA degree offered would be General Management. The students, however, are free to choose most of their courses (electives) in the second year. NMIMS currently has overseas links with the University of EUROMED Marseille in France, ESC ROUEN in France and with ESSCA at both its campuses, i.e. Angers in France and Budapest in Hungary. The exchange covers faculty members as well as students from these places. Several scholarships schemes and research assistantships are also available.

Admission process is 3-staged: 1) Written test (NMAT) normally conducted on the last Sunday of December every year (Students clearing NMAT are eligible to appear in the next two stages of the appraisal process: 2) Group Discussion 3) Personal Interview

NMIMS University has started the Integrated Master of Science-Doctor of Philosophy Programme with the purpose to develop technically skilled manpower for industry.The NMIMS University has introduced Ph.D. programme in Chemical Sciences and Biological Sciences from the academic year commencing from July 2007. The salient feature of these programmes is the emphasis being laid on the overall development of laboratory skills of a research student coupled with an expansion of his knowledge base through an interdisciplinary course work comprising lectures and practicals in the first year of the course and subsequently fine tuning these skills in a particular area of specialization. While the research student will have ample opportunity to acquire hands-on training on modern, sophisticated instruments/equipment wherever necessary, he will also be able to benefit from the expertise of one or more supervisors wherever needed.

The Balwant Sheth School of Architecture awards a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch), under the five years degree program of NMIMS University. This degree program is recognized by the Council of Architecture. The university follows a trimester system.
