[edit] History And Buyout

NASCAR began talks with the former CASCAR series in November 2004, when the two bodies signed a multi-year marketing and operational agreement, giving the series a major uplift. NASCAR purchased it in September 2006, and it replaced CASCAR's Super Series. The series title sponsor is Canadian Tire.[1] The deal brought in many sponsors and TV contracts with TSN. The first series champion was Andrew Ranger. All 13 events of the 2008 season were broadcast tape delayed on TSN, and the Montreal race live on RDS and TSN2 in French.[2] The championship that year went to Scott Steckly who dominated the first half of the season. Former champion of the series Peter Gibbons retired after the 2008 season. The Canadian Tire Series champion is given an opportunity to participate in the Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale Speedway, California as Scott Steckly and Andrew Ranger both have. Many drivers have moved on to the bigger NASCAR series to some degree, like JR Fitzpatrick (Nationwide,Trucks) D.J. Kennington (Nationwide) And Andrew Ranger (Nationwide)

[edit] The cars

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series uses steel tube-framed silhouette cars powered by carbureted V8 engines. The cars have a relatively high minimum weight, so development of lightweight components is minimal. A number of components are specified by the rules, as parity is given priority over vehicle development. Manufacturer involvement is therefore limited largely to supply arrangements for long-developed crate motors, and branding on the largely standard bodywork.
