MyWay Searchbar, also known as MyWay Speedbar, MyWay Search Assistant, MyWebSearch or MyWeb Searchbar, is a computer program. Its status as adware is disputed. It is considered adware by many websites and anti-malware applications[1][2][3][4][5]. MyWay is a search toolbar program that allows the user to query Google, Ask.com, and Yahoo! search engines. Dell used to pre-install this software on some of their commercially sold PCs[6]. It is also a part of the FunWebProducts suite of utilities such as Smiley Central, Webfetti, Cursor Mania, My Mail, FunBuddyIcons, PopSwatter, and Popular Screensavers[citation needed].
[edit] Design Because of MyWay's status as adware, Spybot S&D displays a warning if MyWay is installed. After a user installs the program, a toolbar appears in Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, and Opera web browsers[7], adding search functions and pop-up blocking. MyWay collects data about the user's surfing habits and sends it back to the MyWay server to tailor ads toward the user's interests[citation needed][8]. MyWay is owned by IAC Search & Media. As a Browser Helper Object, MyWay shares the memory that the browser uses and detects certain events, such as a new browser window. When a new browser window is opened, MyWay sends a configuration request that prepares ads according to the user's browsing habits[citation needed]. [edit] Addons to MyWay
