The Museum of the Risorgimento (Museo nazionale del Risorgimento italiano) is one of the museums in Italy dedicated to the Risorgimento. It is housed in the Palazzo Carignano in Turin. [edit] HistoryThe decision to found the museum occurred in 1878, shortly after Italian unification, but it only opened in 1908. Originally located in the Mole Antonelliana, in 1938 it was transferred to its current site (which had previously house the Piedmontese Chamber of Deputies, which was effectively the first parliament of a united Italy). [edit] DisplaysIts exhibits include weapons, flags, uniforms, printed and written documents (including the second-ever manuscript of the song Il Canto degli Italiani), and artworks. The exhibition occupies about 3000 square metres across 26 rooms, and covers a wider period than the Risorgimento proper, stretching from the 18th century to the Second World War. It includes a specialized library, a prints cabinet and a documentary archive. Its friends association promotes initiatives for a greater knowledge of this historical period.
