Mountain View High School is a four-year public secondary school in Meridian, Idaho. The school opened in the fall of 2003, the fourth major high school in the Meridian School District. MVHS is well-known in the Treasure Valley for its state-of-the-art track & field complex and football field. The school colors are navy blue, kelly green, and silver, and the mascot is the maverick. Mountain View competes in the IHSAA class 5A, for the largest enrollments in the state, and is a member of the 5A Southern Idaho Conference (SIC). The Mavericks brought home their first two state championship titles in the fall of the 2006-07 school year, when the boys soccer and boys cross country teams brought home trophies within one week of each other. Mountain View also won state boys wrestling in the 2007-08 year. The marching band claimed first place in the "5A Small" division among other awards, at their yearly District 3 competition for three consecutive years. The Millennium Dancers took home 1st place in the military category at the 2008 Idaho State Dance and Cheer Competition, then received 2nd place at Miss Dance/Drill Team USA Nationals. The varsity speech and debate team placed second out of 70 schools in sweepstakes from the Whitman College tournament for the 2008-09 school year. Girls cross country brought in another state trophy in the 2008-09 school year. MVHS made national news on MSNBC because of the administration's swift response to cheating via digital media (iPods, mp3 players, etc.) [1] The high school also received a great deal of media coverage concerning a mercury spill that occurred on Friday, October 24, 2008. A broken baromometer potentially exposed 25 students and a teacher to the potentially harmful mercury that was inside, which resulted in school cancellation for freshman students during the week of October 27, 2008. [2] Notable current and past students include CJ Reed. Notable dropouts include Adam Gefre. [edit] External links
