Hojatoll-Islam Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi (born in Qom circa 1959[1]) is a politician in the Islamic Republic of Iran. In 2005, he was appointed as the new interior minister of the country by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with the approval of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He is reportedly implicated in the 1988 Massacre of Iranian Prisoners[2] based on the orders of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and other key politicians. According to Grand Ayatollah Hossein-Ali Montazeri, Mustafa Pour-Mohammadi was "the representative of the Ministry of Information in charge of questioning prisoners in Evin Prison" during the massacre. Montazeri saw Pour-Mohammadi as being "a central figure" in the mass executions of prisoners in Tehran.[3]
Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi was touted as a potential neoconservative rival to Ahmadeinejad in the June 12th 2009 Presidential Election, but like many candidates who publicly discussed the possibility of running, or who allowed rumours about their candidacy to spread, he has not put his name down for the ballot. Mohammad Mehdi Faghihi, close person to Ayatollah Khamenei, was said to have assisted in his campaign[citation needed].
In an effort to end the plight of refugees, Hojatoll-Islam Pour-Mohammadi attended a meeting of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees on 10 October 2006 in Geneva, Switzerland.[4]
