Mortal Kombat 9 is the working title of an upcoming fighting game in the Mortal Kombat series. It is in development by WB Games Chicago, formerly known as Midway Games Chicago.^[2][3]

The game was first hinted at by developer Ed Boon on January 2009, shortly after the release of the previous game in the franchise, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.^[4]

On June 18, 2009, Boon confirmed in his Twitter page that they were performing motion capture for the game. He also revealed that the game will not have superheroes in it^[5], thus ruling out an immediate follow-up to Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, and that they were aiming for a "Mature" rating, contrary to the "Teen" rating attained by the previous game. He even questioned "going too far" and showed concern about crossing the limit to "Adults Only" rating.^[6][7] Dan Forden is also expected to return as the music composer for the game.^[8]

On December 4th, 2009, TRMK.com stated that Mortal Kombat 9 will be released around Christmas 2010. ^[1]
