Mohammad Ali (Urdu: محمد علی) (Apr 19, 1931 – March 19, 2006) was the greatest actor of Pakistan. Mohammad Ali was given the title of Shahenshah-e-Jazbaat (Urdu: شہنشاہ جذبات), i.e. The Emperor of Emotions. Mohammad Ali started his career at Radio Pakistan Karachi in the early 1960s. In 1968, he married the renowned actress Zeba. He was known in the film circle for his command as a passionate actor and his ease in dramatic situations as well. He is the winner of 7 Nigar Awards for Best Actor, one for Best Supporting Actor and one special award for the film Dooriyaan (Urdu: دوریاں). His last movie was Dam Mast Qalandar directed by S. Zahoor Gillani and released in 1996. In 1970sMuhammad Ali and Zeba had life style which other actors could only dream even in India people in Bollywood used to talk about this couple. [edit] Start of career from Radio PakistanMuhammad Ali's elder brother Irshad Ali was doing service as a broadcaster in Radio Pakistan Hyderabad, so Mohammad Ali also joined Radio Hyderabad as a broadcaster in 1956. He worked in radio dramas and recorded many programmes for children. In those times Mustafa Qureshi, Robina Qureshi, Qurban Jilani, Badar Hashmi, Hamayat Ali, Irshad Ali etc. were working for Radio. He got 10 rupees for a drama. He was called as Bhoray Mian by his friends. After that he worked as a broadcaster in Radio Bhawalpur and finally moved to Radio Pakistan Karachi. He met here with Z.A. Bukhari, who was the director of Radio Pakistan.Z.A.Bukhari trained him for acting.Muhammad Ali used to call him Daddy.When he was fully trained he introduced Ali to his friend Fazal Ahmed Kareem Fazli who was looking for hero for his new movie.But instead of doing hero's role he accept vallian's role.Ali took care of Z A Bokhari til he died. [edit] Film careerMohammad Ali was the most handsome and the best drama actor in Pakistani film history. who took acting to different level.Did role of a villain when he was offered to do heros role in the famous director-writer-poet Fazal Ahmed Karim Fazli's film Chiragh jalta raha, which was not only his first film (as a villain) but also the first film for Zeba, Deeba, Kamal Irani, and the director Fazli. Chiragh jalta raha was premiered by Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah on March 9, 1962 at the Nishat Cinema, M.A. Jinnah Road, Karachi. Its songs were composed by Radio Pakistan's music director-singer, Nihal Abdullah. The movie brought laurels for Mohammad Ali. He then appeared as a villain in director Munawwar Rasheed's film Bahadur, director Iqbal Yusuf's film Daal mein kala, and director Javed Hashmi's film Dil ne tujhay maan liya. The late director Rafiq Rizvi bapu's films Shararat and Khamosh raho (1964) were the first two films in which Ali appeared as a hero, which led to a long and successful career for him as the hero for innumerable super hit movies. Moreover, he produced many movies as well. During 1974 when some punjabi producer releases movies like "Khaternak" "Nawabzada" Ali took stand against them and warn producers that if you make these movies than families will stop watching movies in cinemas.He also survived assassination attempt on him.In which two person were seriously injured.Some blamed the punjabi group and some blame Z A Bhutto.(Because he had hot arrogment with him in flight from Karachi to Lahore 1970.Noon Hayat Noon save Bhutto when he used abusive language against Ali and Ali charged at him.Later Hafeez Peerzada intervene and finish all misundersanding between them.During Bhutto's trail ASF officers confess that they attack Ali on Bhutto's order.But Ali who was now his friend didn't stood against him in his bad times ref:confession in bhutto case record) Coming back to movies, he was alone in his stand, studio owners encouraged new producers to make quik money.Old producers and directors lost interest and stop coming to studios. Ali was not same after that, he lost interest but kept on working for financial reason.He was helping so many people if he stop working then who is going to help them so he kept on working. But deep inside he was not the same. This he confessed to his friends.After 1975 very few films where he perform upto his talent.Ali was a sensitive man, always try to help mankind.Impact by him in social sector was hugh.When this great artist and noble man died on 19th march 2006.He had biggest Janaza in history of Lahore.People was surprise to see thousands of people to gave respect which he truly earn of his good deeds.No actor enjoy the respect which Muhammad Ali had. Mohammad Ali had total 277 films (248 Urdu, 17 Punjabi, 8 Pashto, 2 Double version, 1 Hindi and 1 Bengali). He had 28 films as guest appearance and 1 documentary film, so his own films were 248 (230 Urdu, 10 Punjabi, 6 Pashto, 1 Hindi and 1 Bengali).[1] [edit] Political and social activitiesMuhammad ali was active in social work from the day he entered in film industry.Ali was not interested in politices.He never join any party.He had good relation with every government in the country.From Ayub Khan to Nawaz Sharif.Even Zia Ul Haque whom he avoided in the beginning but later they had good terms.Ali had good and simple nature.Every government help him in his social work but never took any personnal favour.If someone comes to him and ask his help he would do his best to help them.He was kind hearted man,who can't hate anyone.People used to think he is in PPP which he denied.Because he participated in election campion of Hafeez Peerzada, who was his friend.Lot of PPP meetings used to happen at his place because Hafeez Peerzada as friend but he himself never attended those meetings.If someone question him to join any political party he used to say that if he join any party his social work will suffer. He had close relationship with Nawaz Sharif and had served as the Cultural Minister during his government.As cultural minister he was making new policy for film industry but during this Musharraf took over.Musharraf government send message to Muhammad Ali to keep contining but Ali refused it and didn't accept his offer.Muhammad Ali admire Nawaz Sharif because Nawaz Sharif always help Ali in his social activities.Muhammad Ali used to say that he has not met someone like Nawaz Sharif who goes out of the way to help poors,widows and welfare of artists.In one interview to Geo TV he said i believe that i am their fourth brother.This was in Musharraf's time.Ali was a brave man not afraid of anyone.Nawaz gave responsibility to Muhammad Ali to take care of Sharif Hospital in his absence.Rangeela was the last actor, Ali took care with the help of Nawaz Sharif.Even in bad health he went to see Rangeela. Apart from that he has been associated with the construction business for many years. According to a newspaper report, he owed Rs. 17 to Radio Pakistan Karachi's cafeteria in his initial days. Recently he has urged the cafeteria's cashier to retain his name in their records with the same amount, and that he is willing to pay as much money as is demanded to keep up the old records, since it reminds him of those bad times. [edit] Ali-Zeb FoundationIn the 1990s Muhammad Ali founded the Ali-Zeb Foundation to help the terminally ill, especially those suffering from cancer. Mohammad Ali made hospitals in Sargodha and Faisalabad with the name of Ali-Zeb foundation. [edit] FamilyThe daughter of his wife Zeba, Samina (from Zeba's previous first marriage with Khawaja Rahmet Ali) was the center of attraction for Mohammad Ali. He gave her the name Samina Ali and loved her dearly.Samina Ali is married to Shahid Shah.They have has 2 boys(Hassan Ali,Haider Ali) and one girl(Anum Fatima). Aamir Bokhari who Joined Muhammad Ali as personal Assistant was become family member and Muhammad Ali loved him like his own son. After his retirement from films, Mohammad Ali was asked in a television show about his dissociation from the films, and he said: The atmosphere in which I was accustomed to work for films and the way films were made have entirely changed, hence I called it quits.
