Mogadiscio Stadium is the national stadium of Mogadishu, Somalia. It has a capacity of 35,000 people. The stadium was used for other purposes besides sports by Somalia's government, such as presidential addresses. In 1992-93, Pakistani peace-keepers made the badly bullet-ridden stadium their base until the entire UN peace-keeping contingency left Somalia altogether. The stadium was essential during the events of the Battle of Mogadishu (1993), when wounded and tired Army Rangers and Delta Operators, as well as the rest of the peacekeeping force, received medical attention and care there directly after the battle. As well as this, the stadium is due to hold a major football tournament in the near future. Coordinates: 2°4′3.1″N 45°20′7.7″E / 2.067528°N 45.335472°E
