This is about the beauty pageant. For the 2004 film see Miss Sweden (film).
Annika Duckmark, Fröken Sverige 1996, during a television ceremony in 2008

Miss Sweden (in Swedish: Fröken Sverige), is a Swedish beauty pageant, that before helped qualifying winners for global contests. The national organizers sent delegates to Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, Miss Europe and Miss Scandinavia, but arrange the pageants separately, so they can fit the interests of the delegates, due to the differences between the international pageants. The Miss World pageant has no ranking in swimsuits on stage, while Miss International mainly has the highest scores in the swimsuit competition. However in recent years only delegates to Miss Universe where crowned. In 2009 Miss Sweden lost the license to crown a contestant for Miss Universe, and will from now on only crown a winner to be a good role model for Sweden during a year.

[edit] Pageant history

The pageant has a long tradition of sending the national delegates to vacation abroad, for photos in swimsuits and evening gowns to viewers, such as Dubai (1996), Canary Islands (1997) and Barbados (2002).

Founded by Bonnier Media Group in 1948 and franchise has been in hand from 1949 until 1999 by the magazine VeckoRevyn, from 2000 to 2004 by the television channel TV3 and from 2005 to 2008 by the swimwear producer Panos Emporio.

This pageant has introduced models and actresses such as Anita Ekberg, Lena Olin, Jessica Folcker and Victoria Silvstedt.

[edit] No license

In 2009 the official Miss Sweden winner will not attend Miss Universe 2009, instead a new pageant Miss Universe Sweden will crown the winner who will attend this year's MU-event in Bahamas.

[edit] Broadcasting

Since 1992 the Miss Sweden beauty pageant has aired live on television. The television networks through the years have been Swedish TV4 (1992-2000), TV3 (2001-2005) and TV8 (2006-). Star! Scandinavia is broadcasting the Miss Universe pageant for Swedish viewers and Miss World by TV7. Some of the remaining pageants can be seen on MTV3. License of broadcasting in Sweden has Modern Times Group.

The 2006 contest was broadcast in eight countries, due to English oral presentations and became the second most worldwide viewed national beauty pageant in the world, after the Miss USA pageant.
