Miss Bangladesh is a beauty pageant for the natives of Bangladesh. The winner goes on to represent her nation in the Miss World pageant. The pageant was cancelled in 1998, amid protests by Islamic groups over the attire of the contestants.[1] [edit] Winners
[edit] HistoryThe Miss Bangladesh Contest was first organized in 1996, but that event was never able to attract national media. Chitra represented Bangladesh at the international contest which was held in Delhi, India. In 1997, Anika Taher represented Bangladesh at the beauty pageant held in South Africa. Miss Bangladesh 1998, Shaila Simi (RJ in Radio today fm89.6) has also hosted RTV-"Tarokalap" which is a live talk show. Now, Simi is visiting the UK, and is also visiting Canada to help autistic and mentally challenged people. Miss Bangladesh 1999, Tania Rahman Tonni also participated in the international level. Sonia Gazi (who was Miss Bangladesh 2000) got media attention, but was not among the 10 in the Miss World contest held in London. Priyianka Chopra of India won the crown of Miss World 2000. Tabassum Ferdous Shaon became the last Miss Bangladesh in 2001, and there has been no beauty contest taken place in Bangladesh since after 2001. [edit] References |
