Misi Taulapapa (born 25 January, 1982 in Auckland, New Zealand) is a New Zealand professional rugby league player for the Cronulla Sharks in the National Rugby League competition. Taulapapa's position of choice is on the wing.
[edit] Early careerPreviously Misi Taulapapa played rugby union for the Waitemata Football club, located in West Auckland. He played with Waitemata when they won the Gallagher Shield in 2003. Misi Taulapapa had been playing Rugby Union for most of his life, representing Kelston Boys High School's 1st XV in both regional and national tournaments. Misi continued after high school to play Rugby Union until 2004 when he switched to Rugby League. Misi was selected to play in the Bartercard Cup competition for Marist Richmond Brothers from where he was picked up by the Warriors. [edit] Professional career[edit] 2006Taulapapa played for the New Zealand Warriors before he was released mid-season for turning up to a training session intoxicated.[citation needed] After being released by the Warriors halfway through the 2006 season he moved to Queensland to finish the season at the Central Comets. [edit] 2007-2008Taulapapa signed with the Cronulla Sharks. Here he played as a solid winger and was a fringe NRL player. Taulapapa created some controversy in a 30 June 2008 NRL match against the Canberra Raiders, performing a reverse prowler on Canberra player Alan Tongue when in a group tackle. Taulapapa cause Alan Tongue to be sidelined for four weeks. Despite many Canberra and neutral supporters considering his action to be a dog act, he escaped suspension for this. He scored a hat trick in the qualifying finals game against the Canberra Raiders. [edit] Move to EnglandTaulapapa originally signed with the Gateshead Thunder for the 2010 season.[1] However the club had financial difficulties which voided Taulapapa's contract. He is currently in negotiations with the Sheffield Eagles.[2] [edit] Representative careerTaulapapa was a part of the Samoa squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.[3][4] In 2009 he was named as part of the Samoan side for the Pacific Cup.[5] [edit] References
