Minocher Bhandara, popularly known as Minoo, died in Islamabad on Sunday June 15, 2008 at the age of 71, due to complications as a result of a serious car accident in China several weeks ago. He leaves behind a legacy of enlightened political activism. He was the architect and owner of one of the most successful and durable business conglomerates in Pakistan. Even more remarkable was the fact that he belonged to a small religious minority and was able to run a very successful beer and alcohol production business in a very conservative Muslim country. Bhandara, a Zoroastrian, was the owner of Murree Brewery and was active as a minority representative to the Government, and is a member of the National Assembly, the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Pakistan.
