Incumbent Governor Tim Pawlenty announced on June 2, 2009 that he has chosen not to run for reelection.[1]

At the Republican Party of Minnesota's off-year state convention at the St. Paul RiverCentre, which took place on October 3rd, 2009, Marty Seifert was the first place winner of a non-binding straw poll with 37% of the vote. He was followed by state representative Tom Emmer with 23% of the vote, former state auditor Patricia Anderson with 14% of the vote, and state senator David Hann with 12% of the vote. The remaining GOP candidates all garnered below 10% of the vote. [2][3]
