Soon after graduating from Towson, Larkin played in the same pairing with Michelle Wie in June of 2005 as she became the first woman to qualify for a USGA national men's tournament, in the qualifier for the United States Public Links Championship which was contested at Cedarbrook Golf Course outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.[2]

Larkin has had some success on both the local and national level in professional events. In 2007, his second year as a professional, he finished inside the top 15 in the three biggest tournaments played in the Metropolitan PGA Section: The New York State Open, The Metropolitan Open, and the Westchester Open. On September 25th, 2009, Mike advanced through the Pre-Qualifying stage of the PGA Tour's Qualifying Tournament at the Black Horse Course in Seaside, CA. A final round of 3-under par, 69 moved him up the leaderboard into a tie for 32nd, good enough to advance to First Stage.[9] First Stage will be contested at St. John's Golf and Country Club beginning October 21st, 2009.[10]
