Michael Allen Doss (born March 24, 1981 in Canton, Ohio) is an American football safety who is currently a free agent of the United Football League. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played college football at Ohio State.
[edit] Early yearsDoss attended Canton McKinley High School, leading them to back-to-back state football titles, as well as a USA Today National Championship as a running back, linebacker, and safety. As a senior, he had 1,454 yards rushing, 22 touchdowns, 111 tackles, and three interceptions and won all-state honors and an All-America honorable mention by USA Today. [edit] College careerDoss played as a starter at The Ohio State University where he started 40 out of 50 career games and was a three-time All-Big Ten selection and a three-time All-America choice by the Sporting News. He had 331 career tackles, eight interceptions, eight fumbles recovered, and six sacks. With Doss starting all 14 games as a senior, Ohio State won the national championship against the University of Miami in the Fiesta Bowl as Doss intercepted a Ken Dorsey pass to give Ohio State the lead. He also was a consensus First Team All-America, a Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time semi-finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. [edit] Professional career[edit] Indianapolis ColtsIn 2003, the Indianapolis Colts drafted Doss in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft. In that season, he started 10 games at strong safety and 6 games at linebacker, amassing 101 tackles and three interceptions. Doss was released by the Colts after the 2006 season. [edit] Minnesota VikingsOn April 4, 2007 Doss was signed to a one-year contract by the Minnesota Vikings. He played in eight games. [edit] Cincinnati BengalsDoss was then signed by the Cincinnati Bengals on December 9, 2008 after the team released defensive end Josh Mallard. He was released by the team on April 27, 2009. [edit] UFL OrlandoDoss was drafted by the Florida Tuskers on June 18, 2009. [edit] PersonalOn May 29, 2005, Doss was charged with a felony weapons charge and three misdemeanor charges in Akron, Ohio after police estimated hearing five to six gunshots outside a local restaurant. Doss was sentenced to 40 hours of community service and a $1,000 fine after pleading no contest to the charges. [edit] External links
