In the offseason following the 2006 season, he was designated for assignment by the Cubs and then signed a minor league contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. After playing in the New York Mets' organization in 2007, Negrón signed with the Chicago White Sox on January 11, 2008. With Double-A Birmingham, he hit .299 with 57 RBI and 25 stolen bases.
