Mick Watson (born 1966 in Sydney) is a New Zealand businessman and CEO of Cullen Sports. Mick attended Parramatta Marist Brothers in Sydney’s western suburbs, representing the school in cricket, rugby league, athletics and swimming.[citation needed] Mick played rugby union for Sydney, New South Wales and toured the South Island of New Zealand on two separate occasions.[citation needed] He finished his sporting career at the South Sydney Rabbitohs, winning a lower grade premiership.[citation needed] Between 1986 and 1992, Mick was employed by Coca-Cola, moving through the ranks of marketing and sales. Between 1992 to 1998 Mick was with Pepsi Cola, working with athletes, creating sports sponsorship and he was also responsible for sports and event marketing. He joined Kelloggs in 1998 after working for 12 years within the 'Cola Wars'. He was responsible for re-engineering sports properties and helping Kelloggs deliver their business plan for the first time in 19 years.[citation needed] He became general manager, sales and marketing. In November 2000, Mick was appointed chief executive officer of the New Zealand Warriors, shortly after chairman Eric Watson purchased the New Zealand licence to compete in the National Rugby League. He created history with the Warriors by raising the performance bar to drive the club into the finals series of the NRL, and was responsible for posting the club's first profitable result.[citation needed] Watson created Cullen Sports including the boxing division which has New Zealand Heavyweight Shane Cameron ( IBF Australasian, IBF Pan Pacific, WBA Pan African Ranked 50 World).[citation needed] Mick is currently focusing on managing the boxing career of Monty Betham.[citation needed] On 8 June and 6 August 2007 Watson's WAAAM Boxing Promoted New Zealands "DODGE FIGHT NIGHT". Mick is married to Aucklander Melissa and has four children.[citation needed] Mick currently enjoys playing for the Premier Reserves side at Grafton United Cricket Club based in Auckland. He plays as a middle order batsman and is a valuable asset in the field.[citation needed] |
