Michael Shenton was born 22 July 1986 in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, England. He is a England international rugby league player for the Castleford Tigers in the EngageSuper League competition. Michael Shenton's position of choice is as a Centre but he can also play on the Wing. Michael Shenton's is a product for the Tigers Academy set up. And he is the Clubs second longest servicing player in the current squad. Behind is Tigers team mate Craig Huby. Shenton is member of the England Elite Training Squad as well, with his Castleford Tigers team mate Joe Westerman.
[edit] 2004Shenton made his Castleford Tigers Debut:- 1st May 2004 in a 28 v 42 defeat to Wigan Warriors In 2004 Michael Shenton made his 1st Team Debut for the Tigers and also in the same Year, was a member of the winning U18's Academy Grand Final Side that Played against St Helens RLFC. [edit] 2005In 2005 Michael Shenton was establishing himself as a first team regular in the squad but it was on the wing and then as the season went on Shenton moved in to the centre of the side at the time. Tigers Head Coach David Woods said he was like NRL and Penrith Panthers Star Luke Lewis. Also in that Year Shenton played in the Northern Rail Cup Game final against Hull Kingston Rovers. Shenton also played in the National League Grand Final Match against Whitehaven Rugby League. [edit] 20062006 was a other bad year for the Tigers but, it was a good year personal for Michael Shenton who showed a good account for himself and that he is Super League quality. Shenton got all the rugby league pundits talking about him after the Castleford Tigers 80th anniversary game(Sun 16th July Castleford 31 v Leeds 30). But at the end of Season Castleford Tigers was relegated and there were a lot of Super League clubs* chasing Shenton. (* Wakefield Wildcats, Hull FC) [edit] 2007In 2007 saw Shenton stay loyal with his local town club. It was a Great Season for the Tigers and Shenton. Shenton was a Member of the National League 1 Dream Team of The Year, and was a member of the squad that won NL 1 Champions trophy (finishing 1st in the league). and then he was a member of The National League 1 Grand Final that won Cas promotion back to The Super League. but they was a lot of super league clubs* still chasing Shenton. (*Bradford Bulls) [edit] 2008In 2008 saw Shenton make his 100th appearances for the club and make he International debut against Wales RL as well. Also Michael Shenton was called in to 2008 Rugby League World Cup train on squad but missed out on going to Australia. At Tigers end of the season awards Shenton won the Back of The Year. 100th Tigers Appearances 23/8/2008 - Castleford Tigers 44 v 24 Warrington Wolves England Debut:- 10/10/2008 - England 74 v 0 Wales (The Keepmoat Stadium) [edit] 20092009 showed Shenton grow as a senior player of the squad. Also 09 brings Shenton more international Caps of England. Shenton played in the mid-season international against France. He is in the 20man squad to play against Wales RL in the end of season international. Shenton is in the Gillette 4 Nations 23 man squad for England.
