Michael Jamison (born 11 June 1986) is an Australian rules footballer with the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League. Jamison is a key defender, particularly good against leading players, who has played for several years at the North Ballarat Football Club, with his under-18s football at the Rebels, and then reserves and seniors with the Roosters. Jamison was invited to train with the Carlton Football Club in the 2006/07 offseason, presumably on advice from Carlton assistant coach and outgoing Roosters head coach Gavin Crosisca. Carlton then selected Jamison as a rookie with their second selection in the 2006/07 AFL rookie draft (17th pick overall). As a rookie, Jamison began the 2007 season playing with Carlton's VFL affiliate, the Northern Bullants. After the retirement of Anthony Koutoufides, Jamison was promoted to the senior list and made a successful senior debut against Collingwood in Round 18 with a nice performance against Paul Medhurst.Jamison was also a the centre of a small controversy when a shot at goal, which appeared to go through, was ruled as a behind by the goal unpire. To this day, he sticks to his opinion that it was a goal. Jamison is yet to bring up his first goal in the big league. He began 2008 as a nominated rookie. Throughout the season, he played primarily on the opposition's best leading forward, and generally performed well. In Round 8, he kept Daniel Bradshaw of the Brisbane Lions goalless (who was second in the running for the Coleman Medal at the time), before injuring his shoulder late in the game. Jamison played sixteen games throughout the season, missing six through a shoulder injury, not a rare thing for "Jammo", suffering many shoulder injuries thtoughout his football career. At the end of 2008, Jamison was officially elevated to the senior list. He wears guernsey #40; despite being offered a lower guernsey number (as is customary in the AFL for young players as they become established), Jamison has stated his intention to keep the number.[1] [edit] 2009Jamison looks set to be an integral member of the Blues defence, and will once again be required to use his closing down speed and uncanny ability to spoil, to shut down the elite forwards of the AFL. However in Round 15 against Richmond, Jamison hurt his groin and was a late withdrawal for the following 3 games. He was later ruled out for the remainder of the season. [edit] Personal lifeJamison currently lives with Carlton team-mate Shaun Grigg, who was also recruited from North Ballarat.
