For other persons named Michael Barratt, see Michael Barratt (disambiguation). Michael Barratt (born 3 January 1928), is an English television presenter and announcer. He is mainly remembered for his lengthy period as the main presenter on Nationwide. His father was a civil servant. He was educated at Rossall School, a famous boys' Independent school in Fleetwood, Lancashire, and at Paisley Grammar School in Scotland. He then became a journalist for Kemsley newspapers, before moving to Nigeria to be editor of the Nigerian Citizen and work for the Nigerian Broadcasting Service. Upon his return to the UK he was a reporter on the BBC current affairs programme Panorama, then 24 Hours. He was a Nationwide presenter from 1969 to 1977. He has appeared, as himself, in both films and television, including the film The Magic Christian and The Goodies. In 1972 he was elected Rector of the University of Aberdeen.
