The University of Miami's football program has set multiple records in producing players who go on to the National Football League (NFL).

  • The Hurricanes hold the record for most players selected in the first round in a single draft (6, in 2004), most first-round draft picks in a two-year period (11, from 2003 to 2004), most first-round draft picks in a three-year period (15, from 2002 through 2004), and most first-round picks in a four-year period (19, from 2001 through 2004).
  • For a 14-year period, from 1994 through 2008, the University of Miami had at least one player selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, a NFL Draft record.
  • The Miami Hurricanes are also 10th overall on the NFL's all-time number of draft picks with 315.[1]
  • As of the 2013 NFL season, UM has the most players active in the NFL of any university in the nation, with 44, including players on NFL Practice Squads and Injured Reserves and not including current Free Agents.[2]
  • As of the 2014 NFL Draft, Miami now has had at least one NFL draft pick in every draft since 1975, each of the last 40 NFL drafts, one of the longest streaks among FBS programs. [3]
  • The Hurricanes once had a streak of 149 consecutive regular season weeks where a former Hurricane scored a touchdown in an NFL game; the streak started in Week 15 of the 2002 NFL regular season and ended in Week 11 of the 2011 season.[4] During the streak, 33 different former Hurricanes scored touchdowns and a total of 661 touchdowns were scored.
  • The Hurricanes have had at least one former player make the Pro Bowl every season since 1985, 29 years in a row.

  • Howard Schnellenberger - Retired. Coached in the NFL as the Defensive Ends coach of the Los Angeles Rams (1966-1969), the Offensive Coordinator of the Miami Dolphins (1970-1972) and (1975-1978), and the Head Coach of the Baltimore Colts (1973-1974) - Coached at UM as the Head Coach (1979-1983). Won the 1983 NCAA Division 1-A National Championship.
  • Jimmy Johnson - Retired. Coached in the NFL as the Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys (1989-1993) and the Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins (1996-1999). Won two Super Bowls with the Cowboys (1992 and 1993) - Coached at UM as the Head Coach (1984-1988). Won the 1987 NCAA Division 1-A National Championship.
  • Dennis Erickson - Co-Offensive Coordinator of the Utah Utes.[21] Coached in the NFL as the Head Coach of the Seattle Seahawks (1995-1998) and the Head Coach of the San Francisco 49ers (2003-2004) -Coached at UM as the Head Coach (1989-1994). Won two NCAA Division 1-A National Championships (1989 and 1991).
  • Butch Davis - Defensive Assistant of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2012present) - Coached in the NFL as the Defensive Line Coach of the Dallas Cowboys (1989-1992), the Defensive Coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys (1993-1994) and the Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns (2001-2004). Won 2 Super Bowls with Cowboys under Head Coach Jimmy Johnson (1992 and 1993) - Coached at UM as the Defensive Line Coach (1984-1988) and as the Head Coach (1995-2000).
  • Larry Coker - Has not coached in the NFL. Current Head Coach of the University of Texas at San Antonio (2009present) - Coached at UM as the Offensive Coordinator (1995-2000) and as the Head Coach (2001-2006). Won the BCS and Division 1-A National Championship in 2001.
  • Randy Shannon - Linebackers Coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks (2013present) - Coached in the NFL as a Defensive Assistant (1998-1999) and Linebacker Coach (2000) for the Miami Dolphins - Coached at UM as a Graduate Assistant (1991), Defensive Line Coach (1992), Linebacker Coach (1993-1997), Defensive Coordinator (2001-2006), and as Head Coach (2007-2010). Won the 2001 BCS National Championship under Head Coach Larry Coker.
  • Al Golden - Has not coached in the NFL. Current Head Coach of the University of Miami (2011present).
