Maurice Blackburn is a large law firm in Australia. It is notable for its close relationship with Australia trade unions. The firm was established by Maurice McCrae Blackburn as Maurice Blackburn & Co in 1921. Mr Blackburn was a staunch defender of civil liberties and appeared in many trade union law cases.

These cases include the Amalgamated Engineering Union cases of 1928 [1] and 1935 [2] and the Federated Gas Employees' Industrial Union decision of 1925 [3]. All were decisions of the High Court of Australia.

Recent history has seen the firm involved in many significant legal cases including the 1998 Australian waterfront dispute. It is also actively involved in court cases for asbestos victims.

In October 2007, the name of the firm reverted to Maurice Blackburn, after being known as Maurice Blackburn Cashman.
