Matthew Russell "Matt" Downs (born March 19, 1984 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama) is a Major League Baseball second baseman for the San Francisco Giants.

On Tuesday, June 16, 2009, Matt Downs was called up to the San Francisco Giants, replacing the struggling Emmanuel Burriss. He was initially drafted 26th by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2004 player draft, while playing for the University of Alabama. In 2006 the Giants drafted him 36th. He played 2006 in the Rookie League Giants franchise, in 2007 for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, and in 2009 at their AA San Jose Giants and AAA Fresno Grizzlies teams. He also played a year of pitcher/infielder for Shelton State Community College in Alabama in 2003.
