[edit] Plot

Mata ki Chowki is a story of a girl called Vaishnavi, an adopted child of Pandit Vidyasagar and his wife Shraddha. After two years, her mother, Shraddha, dies giving birth to her own child Sunakshi.

From the early age of six, Vaishnavi develops immense interest and faith in “Ma Vaishno Devi”. She starts showing signs of being a super-normal child. She preaches about Mata, sings Jagrata, motivates people to follow Mata and rescues people from pain and misery.

The story takes a twist when her sister, Sunakshi runs away with her lover at the time of her marriage with Vansh. And this ends up Vaishnavi marrying Vansh and throwing herself into an unfamiliar world. Here, Vaishnavi meets Sheel Kumar (father-in-law), the evil force who takes advantage of her devotion towards Mata Viashno Devi and her ability to motivate people through her preaching.

Vaishnavi sees herself in a world wherein the seven deadly sins lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride have cluttered humans to look for short cuts to power, wealth and success following non-moralistic ways.

[edit] Characters

[edit] Vaishnavi

Vaishnavi, an orphan who is found by a Pandit couple of Vaishno Devi shrine. In spite of not wanting Vaishnavi, Pandit Vidyasagar gives in to his wife’s wishes and adopts her. However, he considers Vaishnavi as non-existent to him. Two years later Shraddha conceives but a tragic mishap occurs during her last month of pregnancy and she dies giving birth to a daughter named Sunakshi. Pandit Vidyasagar holds Vaishnavi responsible for the ills happening to his family. At the age of six, Vaishnavi develops immense interest and faith in “Mata Vaishno Devi”. She starts taking a keen interest in knowing about mata, learning about her teachings and preaching. She discreetly learns about mata from Panditji, reads scriptures on her own and gets clarifications from Abdul (a learned Muslim who carried people on his back to the shrine). Vaishnavi starts showing signs of being a super–normal child. She preaches about mata, sings Jagrata, and motivates people to follow mata and in doing so, rescues people from pain and misery, all of which are seen as miracles by the masses. She gets married to Vansh Kumar unintentionally because her sister was supposed to get married to him but she ran away. She goes through so many problems in marriage life and society and family.

[edit] Vansh Kumar

Vansh Kumar lives a laid back life, loves to party around with friends and have fun, but is quite cultured, believes in God and has immense respect for parents. As he couldn’t say no to his father’s proposal on his marriage with pandit’s daughter, he ends up marrying Vaishnavi although he is in love with a girl called Natasha. But Later he accpets Vaishnavi and go through a long saga...

[edit] Sheel Kumar

Sheel Kumar, a business tycoon from Mumbai but originally from Katra comes with a marriage proposal for his son Vansh with Sunakshi. Instead of Sunakshi, Vaishnavi get married. He accepts her as his daughter-in-law and considers her "Mata ki Beti". He is opposite of Vaishnavi. He has a dual personality. He loves to play with people minds. When he is alone he talks with Mata and explains her all his plans and considers himself her "son". Basiclly spread butter or sweet talk with Mata. He does not have good realtion ship with his wife and older son Yash. He wants to have Vaishnavi in control so he can have the land at Vaishnodevi.

[edit] Ghulfham

Almost 24 year old, the son of Abdul is cute looking but in a way comical and light-hearted in nature. He is a childhood buddy of Vaishnavi and has been always there with her, for her. He wandered, moved around, and looked for answers to godly questions and is like a lieutenant to Vaishnavi as Sudama was to Krishna, never applied his own brain, analytical power, is not that smart, ambitious and general as are the people of his age. He is a very clean, emotional and sensitive soul who becomes the first student of Vaishnavi. She discusses spirituality, philosophy, Karma, God and rest of her self-mastered abilities with him - he is always there to listen to Vaishnavi and even questions her like a kid – later he comes with Vaishnavi to Mumbai as well – almost a humour break in our way of storytelling.

[edit] Moksh

Moksh is 25 years old and a dark coloured horse in the stallion of all white horses. He plays long term moves – a real villain who seems to be very positive, but actually is dark, negative. He is a master mind –- ambitious, shrewd, cunning, street-smart, focused, and pushes himself. He can go to any limitation to achieve his goal and has become revengeful and wants to take the entire Kumar’s business under his control. He has been poked by his mother since childhood that justice has been denied to her and his father. He is on his secret mission and has been able to get things almost under his control before the arrival of Vaishnavi in house. All like him in house, but he is dearest to Sheel Kumar as he sees his reflection in him and according to him has good understanding of business. Sheel Kumar believes that Moksh will keep Kumar’s flag flying high. Yash doubts Moksh, he thinks that he is ‘too much involved in business’ and has been pampering Vansh too much and it is because of that Vansh is not focusing much on work. After coming of Vaishnavi, he plays smart because Sheel likes her, he too likes her, but he sees her as threat because Sheel hands over certain power to her and makes her the decision maker in house; he tries to be very cordial with Vaishnavi, but at the same time gets insecure about her overpowering impression on Sheel Kumar and thinks of her as major threat.
