Masku (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈmɑsku]) is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Finland Proper region. The municipality, which is located just north of Turku, has a population of 9,438 (30 June 2009)[2] and covers an area of 254.08 square kilometres (98.10 sq mi) of which 51.09 km2 (19.73 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 46.49 inhabitants per square kilometre (120.4 /sq mi). The municipality is unilingually Finnish. The municipality has previously also been known as "Masko" in Swedish documents, but is today referred to as "Masku" also in Swedish.[6] On January 1, 2009 the municipalities of Askainen and Lemu were consolidated with Masku.
