Martin Rennie is a Scottish born football (soccer) midfielder and manager who has played and coached in the United States and Europe. He is the head coach of the Carolina Railhawks United Soccer Leagues franchise in Cary, North Carolina. He is one of the youngest-ever coaches to attain the UEFA ‘A’ License and is also one of the youngest coaches to coach at the semi-professional level in Scotland. He was a member of the Charlotte Eagles squad from 1996-1997, but never played due to a cruciate ligament injury. In 2005, he was working at a software company when he received an offer to coach the Cascade Surge in the U.S. fourth division Premier Development League. He took a leave of absence from his company and moved to Oregon where he won the 2005 Division Championship & Fair-Play Award. The team also qualified for the U.S. Open Cup for the only time in its 12 year history. After returning to Scotland to play and coach in 2006, Rennie returned to become the Head Coach of the expansion Cleveland City Stars of the USL Second Division in 2007. He was the 2007 USL-2 Coach of the Year. During the Cleveland City Stars inaugural year in 2007, Rennie led the team to a regular season with only one defeat while conceding just 14 goals in the entire season. In 2008 he took the Stars to the USL-2 championship, and was again named the USL-2 coach of the yesr. At both the Cleveland City Stars and Carolina Railhawks, Rennie has been assisted by former Aberdeen F.C. and Scotland national football team player, Brian Irvine. [edit] External links
