[edit] Club career

Barbosa started his career with Club Atlético Banfield in 2002. In 2005 he was signed by Spanish club Villarreal CF for a fee of 2 million,[1] alongside Uruguayan Sebastián Viera.

Barbosa served mainly as reserve at Villarreal, but filled in for Viera a number of times, most notably in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League against Arsenal. Even though he did not let in any goals in the second leg, Arsenal had beaten Villarreal 1-0 in the first leg, for an eventual qualification.

In summer 2007, after the signing of Diego López, Barbosa was allowed to join fellow La Liga side Recreativo de Huelva.[2] Barred by Italian Stefano Sorrentino, he appeared in no matches during his sole campaign.

In 2008, he returned to Argentina with Estudiantes de La Plata, being loaned to Club Atlético River Plate in the following year. After an unsuccessful return to Argentina, he was sold to F.C. Atlas of Mexico, on July 7, 2009.

[edit] International career

Barbosa was second-choice for the Argentine Under-20 team that reached the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup in 2003, in an eventual runner-up place, to winners Brazil. He replaced suspended Gustavo Eberto in the round of 16 match against Egypt, a 2-1 victory.
