Marian Louisa Montagu Douglas Scott (née The Lady Marian Louisa Montagu Douglas Scott, 16 June 1908 - 11 December 1996) was the first daughter born to Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Herbert Andrew Montagu Douglas Scott and Marie Josephine Edwards. She was the paternal grandmother of Sarah, Duchess of York, and the maternal great-grandmother of HRH Princess Beatrice of York and HRH Princess Eugenie of York. Lady Marian Louisa was also a first cousin of Lady Alice Christabel Montagu Douglas Scott, who became, after her wedding to Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, The Duchess of Gloucester and an aunt-by-marriage of Queen Elizabeth.[2] [edit] Early Life, Marriage, & FamilyMarian Louisa Montagu Douglas Scott was born on Tuesday, June 16, 1908, the second child and first daughter for Lieutenant-Colonel Lord Herbert Andrew Montagu Douglas Scott, son of Sir William Henry Walter Montagu Douglas Scott, 6th Duke of Buccleuch & 8th Duke of Queensberry and Lady Louisa Jane Hamilton, and Marie Josephine Agnes Edwards, daughter of James Andrew Edwards and Kate Marion Agnes MacNamara. On November 1, 1927, at the age of just 19, Marian married Colonel Andrew Henry Ferguson (10 October 1899 - 4 August 1966), in London, England. The couple had two children:
Her first son, John, was ten years old when he died from peritonitis. Her second son, Ronald, was the father of Sarah, Duchess of York, and the maternal grandfather of HRH Princess Beatrice of York and HRH Princess Eugenie of York. Ronald Ferguson died on 16 March 2003 from a heart attack, after a lengthy battle with skin and prostate cancers.[1] On Wednesday, October 30, 1968, a little more than two years after the death of her husband, Colonel Andrew Henry Ferguson (4 August 1966), Marian married Air Marshal Sir Thomas Walker Elmhirst KBE, CB, AFC, DL, RAF, widower of the late Katherine Black.[2] Thomas Elmhirst died on 6 November 1982. [edit] DeathMarian died on Wednesday, December 11, 1996, at Dummer, Hampshire, in her 89th year. She was predeceased by two husbands, Colonel Andrew Henry Ferguson (4 August 1966) and Thomas Elmhirst (6 November 1982), and her first born son John Andrew Ferguson (d. 1939).
