Mahershalalhashbaz Ali (born February 16, 1974) is an American actor. He is perhaps most well known for his portrayal of Richard Tyler in the USA Network program The 4400 and "Tizzy" in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. [edit] Life and careerAli was born Mahershalalhashbaz Gilmore in Oakland, California. He is an Ahmadi Muslim. His name is derived from the Biblical book of Isaiah 8:1-3, where the name is usually given as "Maher-shalal-hash-baz." It is Hebrew for "To speed to the spoil, he hasteneth the plunder" and is thought to be the longest given name in the Bible. He is a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. He received his bachelor's degree in communications at Saint Mary's College of California, where he discovered his love and talent in performance. He acquired his master's degree in acting at New York University. Shortly after graduation, he made his stage debut in the California Shakespeare Festival. His first TV appearance was as Dr. Trey Sanders on the television drama series Crossing Jordan. This was followed by other roles on shows like NYPD Blue, Threat Matrix, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Haunted and The 4400. He is also a 1992 graduate of Mount Eden High School in Hayward, California. He is currently portraying the role of "Mombasa" in the upcoming 2010 Scifi/horror, Predators produced by Robert Rodriguez. [edit] External links
