The 2009 MLS Cup was the championship match of the 2009 Major League Soccer season, the 14th season of the league. The final was played at Qwest Field in Seattle, Washington on 22 November 2009.^[1]

The match was contested by Eastern Conference champion Real Salt Lake and Western Conference champion Los Angeles Galaxy. Real Salt Lake won the game and their first MLS Cup after winning 5–4 in a penalty shootout following a 1–1 draw.^[2] A penalty miss in the shoot-out from LA Galaxy striker Edson Buddle left Salt Lake defender Robbie Russell to score and give the club their first title in only their 5th season as an MLS team.^[3]

ESPN televised the match in English and Galavisión in Spanish. This was the first time that the MLS championship match was televised on the cable network after the first thirteen were carried on ABC.
