Lyle Workman (born October 21, 1957) is an American guitarist, composer and music producer. His music has been widely distributed since his debut on the eponymous Bourgeois Tagg album in 1986,[1] and is currently best known for his work as composer and bandleader for the Superbad soundtrack.[2][3][4]

Workman is also credited as composer for the hit comedies,Yes Man, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The 40-Year-Old Virgin,[5] and the Jon Favreau film Made.[6] He contributed on guitar and other instruments on soundtracks to The Skeleton Key,[7] Two for the Money, In Good Company, Starsky & Hutch, Old School, and both Charlie's Angels and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.[8]

His work on the Superbad soundtrack has earned critical acclaim.[9][10][11]

Workman released his first instrumental "solo" album, Purple Passages, in 1996, and was well reviewed[12] among musicians with XTC's Dave Gregory calling Workman "a musician of consummate skill, creativity and taste".[8] His second solo album, Tabula Rasa (2001), has also received rave reviews.[13][14] "Harmonic Crusader" was released in 2009.

Workman is also known to Todd Rundgren fans as the lead guitarist on Rundgren's albums Nearly Human and 2nd Wind. Beck's live audiences saw Workman perform as the lead guitarist on Beck's tours[15] from 1999 to 2001, and Workman toured with Sting[16] on 2006's Broken Music Tour, and performed with him at Live 8. He has also worked extensively with Frank Black, and has worked as a studio musician in Los Angeles in both Jingles and as a studio musician on many rock and pop albums.[17]
