Lowrie Elementary School, is a public elementary school located in Elgin, Illinois, a north-west suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of Elgin Area School District U46. As of 2008[update], Lowrie's student body was 71.4% hispanic, 14.9% white, 6.1% multiracial, 5% black, and 1.7% asian. Historically, Lowrie draws students from the southern edge of Elgin's traditional street grid as well as any children residing in the staff housing of Elgin State Hospital. In 2009 Lowrie celebrated its’ status as an Illinois Spotlight School. This means that while at least half of the students come from low income families, at least 50% of the students have to meet or exceeded state standards on the Illinois State Achievement Test in both reading and math on the 2006/2007 scores and improve to 60% in 2008. At Lowrie, 74% of the students met or exceeded standards.[1] Volunteers from Zion Lutheran Church and First Presbyterian Church tutor Lowrie students. [edit] External links[edit] References
