Louis Richard Palmisano (born September 16, 1982 in Utica, New York) is a Major League Baseball catcher for the Houston Astros organization.
[edit] Early life[edit] High schoolPalmisano graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 2001, after winning a state championship in baseball. In the Major League Baseball draft that year, Palmisano was taken by the Chicago White Sox in the 21st round (643rd overall). [edit] CollegeHe did not sign with the White Sox and instead attended Broward Community College, in which he graduated in 2003 with a business degree. That same year, he entered the draft again, and this time was taken by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 3rd round as the 69th overall pick. [edit] Professional career[edit] Milwaukee BrewersAfter signing with the Brewers, he played for the Rookie League Helena Brewers in 2003. Playing in 47 games, he hit 6 home runs and hit close to .400 with a .391 clip. After the season, he was named by Topps as a short season rookie All-Star. He lead the Pioneer League in batting average and was Baseball America's short-season All-Star, Most Valuable Player and an All-Star at catcher. In 2004, Palmisano played his first full season while playing for the Single-A Beloit Snappers. In 113 games, he batted .293 with 7 home runs and 65 RBI. He hit in eleven consecutive games from June 11 to the 26. Palmisano blasted two homers and plated a season-high five runs on August 23. In 2005, he played for the Single-A Advanced Brevard County Manatees and batted .255 with 5 home runs. His season included being named to the Florida State League midseason All-Star game. His seven triples ranked fifth in the Florida State League. For the next two seasons, 2006 and 2007, Palmisano played entirely for the Double-A Huntsville Stars. In both seasons he was named to the Southern League midseason All-Star game. He batted .241 with 4 home runs in 2006 and .256 with a career high 11 home runs in 2007. On November 19, 2007, the Brewers purchased Palmisano's contract, protecting him from the Rule 5 Draft. On September 5, 2008, he was designated for assignment to make room for Mike Lamb.[1] [edit] Houston AstrosPalmisano was taken by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2008 Rule 5 draft from the Milwaukee Brewers, but was immediately traded to the Houston Astros. He is competed with Humberto Quintero and J.R.
