[edit] History
Located on the outskirts of Bordeaux, Lormont has always been a prosperous village, fishing port, and a place for the transit of goods and people. By the XIX century, the Bordelais (inhabitants of Bordeaux) use to travel to Lormont for a day of leisure on Sunday afternoons. During the 1960s Lormont was subject to a grand industrialisation which doubled the size of the population.
[edit] Policy of the city
On the 21st November 2006, Lormont signed the most important ANRU for the project of Urban Renovation in Aquitaine. This relates to the Carriet city, which is located in the old perimeter of the GPV upper part of the Garonne. This project of €69,762 075 envisages:
- The demolition of 375 social housing
- The construction of 413 social housing (264 in the district - 149 in the commune)
- The construction of 264 residences in the district (16.8% in PLS or accession)
- The creation of a District Center with a commercial function of the Magendie Place
- The reworking of the internal pedestrians paths in the district
- The creation of two anti noise barriers to protect the suburb from the noise created by the by-pass and SNCF train system
- The construction of two educational sites, the educational site of Mireport and the educational site of Lower Carriet
- The construction from 50 to 60 non social rental residences by l'Association Foncière Logement
There is a subsidy profit from the ANRU in the order of 23%.
This project, which accompanies the layout of the recently installed Bordeaux Tramway Line A on the avenue de la Libération, should basically modify the living conditions of the plateau.
