Longmeadow High School is located on Grassy Gutter Road in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, United States. Longmeadow High School was founded in 1956 and enrolls approximately 1,100 students[1]. The school's mascot is a Lancer. Longmeadow High School is known for being one of the best[weasel words] public schools in its area.[citation needed] Longmeadow High consistently scores above the national average in both the verbal and mathematics section of the SAT [1]. Longmeadow also scores above the state average in the state wide test, the MCAS [1]. Approximately[weasel words] 75% of seniors continue their studies at a four year college.[citation needed] In recent years top students have gained admission to the most respected schools in the nation, including all in the Ivy League, Stanford, MIT, Duke, University of Chicago, and Washington University in St. Louis.[citation needed] Besides excelling in academics, Longmeadow High also boasts an exceptional athletics department. Longmeadow has many state and division championships on their record. Longmeadow has a powerful football program making them ranked as 5th in the state and 1st in WMass. However, Longmeadow lost the traditional Thanksgiving Day game to its rival East Longmeadow in 2008.[2] Longmeadow High School is also known for its Grammy award-winning music program, which includes an orchestra, a student-run chamber orchestra, two bands, a jazz band, a pep band, two women's choirs, a men's choir, an honors choir, an a cappella women's choir, and an honors a cappella choir.
