Kiryas Joel, New York has the lowest per capita income of any location with over 10,000 population in the US.

According to the United States Census Bureau the following are the places in the United States with the lowest per capita income. The locations are listed with their per capita income and their population. The poorest sizable town (with a population of 13,138) is Kiryas Joel, New York which has a per capita income of just $4,355. In terms of geographic size, Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and the adjacent Rosebud Indian Reservation (Lakota Sioux Reservations, South Dakota) have long been the poorest swaths of land in the United States. 3 of the poorest 10 US locations are on these 2 reservations, which also constitute the 3 largest populations in the bottom 10 locations.

Of the major locales with the lowest per capita income in the United States, seven are in Texas and all of these have at least a 97% Hispanic population. Two are in Arizona; Colorado City is a community in which members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints live, while San Carlos is an Apache Indian Reservation.

Kiryas Joel, Kaser and New Square are Hasidic, Jewish communities, all in Orange and Rockland counties, New York. Kiryas Joel, is a Satmar community, Kaser is a Viznitz community, and New Square is a Skver community.
