It includes not only those states which had widespread international recognition, but also those states which were generally unrecognized.  Slovakia - Slovak Republic
Capital: Bratislava - De facto independent state under German "protection". Recognized by 15 other states. Claimed by Czechoslovakia.
 Tannu Tuva - Tuvan People's Republic
Capital: Kyzyl - De facto independent state. Recognized by the Soviet Union and Mongolia.
